✦ Overview

What is a cheek lift?

A cheek lift is a procedure that corrects your sagging midface. This will help restore lost volume to the area and move the cheek to its original more youthful position. A cheek lift is also referred to as a mid facelift or mid face surgical rejuvenation.
When you lose volume in the cheek with age the cheek tends to drop causing the nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose down to the edge of the mouth) to become deeper and the area just below the lower eyelids to appear puffy or hollow.

A NOTE FOR YOU

Your consultant at Kliniken sees you for every stage of your treatment including assessment prior to treatment and follow up care after treatment. Your lower eyelid, cheek, and midface are all assessed together because most problems in one area affect the other areas as well.

Procedure detail: choosing the right technique

  • ENDOSCOPIC CHEEK LIFT: This method uses small incisions in conjunction with a camera to guide the lifting of the deeper cheek tissues as opposed to having an open wound that would cause a long visible scar. If you prefer the least invasive technique for faster recovery this may be a good option for you.
  • SUBCILIARY APPROACH: Incisions are made immediately below your lash line along your lower eyelid. This may extend to the outside edge of your eye. The subciliary approach provides a clear path to lift your cheeks and treat issues like puffiness or hollowness under your eyes simultaneously.

Whether or not each procedure is best suited for your needs depends upon how extensive the corrections need to be and if the lower eyelid requires treatment along with the cheek area. Your surgeon can explain both procedures thoroughly.

Benefits of cheek lift surgery

  • A cheek lift softens nasolabial folds by replacing lost volume which occurs due to aging in the midface.
  • Unlike fillers, which are placed into the skin and can move or settle over time, cheek lifts restore lost volume with your own facial tissues, creating a longer lasting result that is less affected by the pull of gravity.
  • Patients typically see improvement in both their cheeks and lower eyelids, as the cheeks and lower eyelids sit very close to each other, and lifting the cheeks will also help reduce puffiness/ sagging around the eyes.
  • Beyond the usual physical change, our patients often just say that they look less tired and feel more confident because of it.
✦ Am I a good candidate for cheek lift surgery?

Signs you may be a candidate for cheek lift surgery

To get an accurate assessment as to whether you are a candidate for this treatment, we recommend that you schedule a consultation with one of our consultant plastic surgeons based at our clinic in Harrogate. The typical ideal candidate has:

  1. Noted loss of fullness or descent in their cheek area.
  2. More defined or deepened nasolabial folds, puffiness and hollowing below the lower eyelid.
  3. Sagging due to gravity and age only
  4. Be a non smoker and have good overall physical health. Smoking can significantly impede healing processes.
  5. Desire a natural appearance and not clearly something “worked on”.
✦ What clinics don't talk about

Honest risks of a cheek lift

  • Swelling, bruising, and numbness occur frequently for the majority of people after a cheek lift and generally reach their peak by day two or three but take several weeks to settle down.
  • The less frequent risks include infections, visible scarring, and differences in appearance between each cheek.
  • Subciliary approach: There is a very small chance that the lower eyelid will be placed slightly lower than it was prior to the operation (ectropion) as this has been reported to be a known risk of this incision method. However this is not specific to Kliniken.
  • Endoscopic approach: Due to reduced visibility while performing the surgery, not every patient will qualify for endoscopic cheek lift surgery.
✦ Can i combine other procedures with a cheek lift?

✦ Frequently asked questions

FAQs on cheek lift in Harrogate

We offer two techniques. The first method, referred to as an "endoscopic cheek lift," involves making several very small incisions through which cameras assist in lifting deeper tissues. This allows for lifting without large scars on the outside. The second option utilizes a subciliary (under the lash) approach to create a single incision in the lower eyelid. This provides a surgeon with direct access to both the cheek and puffy lower eyelid area simultaneously. Our consultant can advise which is best for you.

Typically, candidates who have experienced either volume loss or drift in their cheeks, developed deep nasolabial folds or see puffiness beneath the lower eyelid from aging and gravity, are suitable for this procedure. Following this assessment, further discussions with our consultant will confirm if you are indeed a suitable candidate.

Our consultant performs a thorough evaluation of the entire lower eyelid, cheek and midface region. Since these areas typically work in tandem, they should all be evaluated as a unit. Prior to surgery, our consultant will also evaluate your medical background and history, discuss your expectations or goals, and determine the most appropriate surgical technique based upon your individual anatomy.

You will typically see an improvement in the appearance of your cheeks immediately. The swelling that occurs is usually at its worst within the first 48 hours and gradually decreases as time progresses. Our surgeon will typically follow up with you one week post op to assess the healing and remove any sutures that may still be visible. Most people report feeling brighter and more refreshed by approximately two weeks post op.

For those who wish to delay surgery due to cost, personal preference, etc., dermal filler injections can help replace lost volume in the cheek area or soften nasolabial creases. Dermal fillers do not provide the same results as surgical lifting in terms of addressing the effects of gravitational forces on facial structure. However, these should be discussed during your initial consultation if you are interested in trying non surgical options before considering surgery.

Cheek lift cost in the UK typically starts from around £7,025 at Kliniken. However, this amount will be confirmed during your consultation to reflect your individual needs.

A cheek lift is performed at our Harrogate clinic as it can only be done under either sedation or general anesthetic. Consultations for this operation are provided at our Cleckheaton location, however, the actual operation cannot be performed there because Cleckheaton uses local anaesthetics for their operations.

Yes. Loss of mid facial volume and deepened nasolabial folds occurs in both men and women. Thus, the same methods can be used.
